Behind GHORBA

I created GHORBA because I could not find a place where the ordinary experience of migration was being preserved with the attention it deserved. Much has been written about borders, politics and displacement. Less has been written about recipes remembered from memory, paperwork that becomes a second vocabulary, or raising the next generation of identity ambiguous little humans.

GHORBA was never intended to speak for people. It exists so people can speak for themselves. There is no single immigrant experience and no single definition of belonging.

The project values honesty over literary prestige. The editorial process exists to honour each contributor's voice, never to replace it.
